A nice grouping to Sjt Alfred William Matthew’s of the 73rd Anti tank Regiment RA, 196 battery, the regiment was armed with 17 pounder anti tank guns towed by quads and M10 tank destroyers, going ashore on D-day, they thought across France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, the lot consisting of 39/45, Africa with 8th army clasp, Italy and France/Germany stars, war and defence medals. Division and RA badges, rare to find book documenting the Batteries campaign from D-day to wars end, which was printed in Germany in 1945, the rear of the book shows all names and addresses of each member of the battery.

The battery is infamous as a patrol at the end of war captured Himmler. I have highlighted the soldiers involved in the photos, Sjt Matthew’s is highlighted also with a red star, he is not mentioned as a member of the patrol but would certainly have been involved in his capture and security until Himmler was handed up the chain of command.

There is also a letter of appreciation from the battery to Sjt Matthew’s probably would have accompanied a gift, plus a loose original photo that that appears in the book.

A very interesting grouping especially with the Himmler connection.

I have more images available on request of this grouping.
