The primary Victorian rifle sword was the 1827 Pattern, of which this is an excellent example, carried by officers in the British Rifle and Volunteer regiments. It is highly prized by collectors for its distinctive steel Gothic hilt and the crowned bugle horn (the traditional symbol of light infantry and rifle units) etched into the blade and guard. This example was made for and retailed by Silver & co. London.
The blade is etched with a starburst around its Silver & Co. Proof plug, standard rifles etching throughout the blade, with Victorian crown and hanging horn. Has the arrow often seen on the spine of rifles swords.
Overall a very nice example of a desirable sword.
