Although 1897 patterns are pretty common this is an Edwardian example which due to a short reign and no large scale wars means there a lot scarcer than Victorian or George V and George VI examples, put this in conjunction with the fact it’s an NCO sword, that’s been bought from Wilkinson by the War Office for issue to the Indian army, making this a hard to find example.

Clearly stamped Wilkinson in a very basic way, broad arrow and I for Ishapore and the year 04 on the ricasso and WO for war office on the spine. Inner section of the guard is stamped R.E 1.08. Possibly Royal Engineers.

The blade is as to be expected plain and devoid of any etching although basic it’s clearly a quality Wilkinson sword, overall a nice scarce sword, complete with original scabbard which although in decent condition has lost its leather drag, apart from this small issue it’s an excellent sword
