An amazing death plaque, portrait and plaque to Eric Appleby a Royal Artillery officer, what makes this important is the fact fell in love with an Irish opera singer, once posted to France they wrote love letters to each other.

These letters were found nearly a century later and published into a book called Love letters from the trenches.

This book was later dramatised and a BBC radio play was broadcast.

Eric was born to a rich family in Bootle, Lancashire, he later moved to a large house in Crosby which was then Lancashire as well.

His family owned several large flour mills, which enabled him a first class education.

When WW1 broke out he was made into an off and sent to train with the RA .

Here he met his fiancée Phylis Kelly a famous opera singer.

Included is a copy of the book, also a photo portrait of his father and a Police reserve medal (his father was watch commander for the local special constabulary )

This is an outstanding group that has been in my collection for many years.
