A rare to find private purchase 1853 pattern cavalry sword, much rare than the standard issue examples, possibly made privately for an officer or yeomanry, construction is superior to the standard issue sword, the blade being lighter and much handier feeling than the standard sword, likely the blade is made in Sheffield or Birmingham by a quality maker rather than the common imported German blades which where of a lesser standard, the blade is nicely etched with the retailer Parker Field & Son 233 Holborn, London, a well known retailer selling swords and guns to officers and also supplying police officers. The sword is in good overall condition, scabbard is pitted in places and been painted black at some point. A very scarce example of a normally common sword.
