A Lee Metford 1888 mk2 type 2 bayonet, made late in the production run for these bayonets, September 1902, they where superseded by 1903 bayonet, the bayonet also has a 1916 issue mark so likes used well into WW1, the metal parts of the scabbard also have some remains of green paint just visible, its unit marked GWELL, which I have not been able to identify..The blade is pretty clean for its age which is common with these bayonets as they were produced using the the finest quality Victorian steel. Overall a nice bayonet that may be worthy of further research.
